"james holden is the man!" - sasha
James holden has established himself as one of the pillars of the dance music community, consistently producing beautiful and futuristic tracks and equally stunning remixes, supported by everyone, from sasha, digweed and warren to tong, oakenfold and tiesto. his own dj talents have taken him round the world and secured residencies at uk superclub passion and dutch superclub kremlin alike, as he builds a reputation for himself as a distinguished dj and producer. all this, and he’s still just twenty-three years of age.
The now-classic “horizons”, the trance tune which first shot him to fame was recently featured in mixmag’s top 100 dance records of alltime. Recent colaborations include: julie thompson for his release "nothing” also “bloodlock” for sasha’s “airdrawndagger” artist album, and ongoing projects with brancaccio & aisher. With remixes for the likes of new order and the classic “fine day”, featuring the vocals of opus III singer kirsty hawkshaw, james continues to cement his reputation as an exceptionally talented Producer with his own unique sound. Drawing his influences from dub, lo-fi and ambient music and converting them into a more dancefloor-friendly format, his echo-drenched production treads the fine line between trance, deep house, progressive and techno.
Demand for james as a dj has taken him to new york, tokyo, moscow, singapore, ibiza, australia & new zealand, the berlin love parade and all over europe. with regular appearances at clubs as diverse as elements (london), slinky (bournemouth and bristol), slide (oxford) and state of grace (inverness). with his first mix cd “fear of a silver planet” and his essential mix in 2002 giving him the chance to showcase his unique sound, james is very much a dj to watch for the future, melodic and driving, dubbed out and hypnotic, his sets take in techno and deep trance along with his own tracks, special edits and remixes put together in his studio and a good deal of sampler wizadry, making his sets every bit as individual as the sound of his productions.
"james holden is absolutely amazing." - nick warren
"Steve Gerrard is another DJ who is making a name for himself by delivering great sets everywhere he goes. He always rocks it at Bedrock when he plays." - John Digweed
Steve Gerrard is a name that, if you follow progressive music, you will be hearing plenty of in 2003. Hailing from Chester, he now lives in Birmingham, UK and got his first taste of house music in 1994 when he was given a copy of the first Renaissance album. He recalls hearing the track "Song Of Life" by Leftfield and it completely changed his ear for music and his life today.
With influences that range from the Sasha and Digweed, Nick Warren and Danny Howells to Adam Freeland and Hybrid and the technical skills of Anthony Pappa, he has developed a unique style. Which is: deep, progressive house mixed with breakbeat, building steadily and creating a set which is more than the sum of its parts. All the while keeping in mind that it is his job to make people want to dance and keep on dancing.
Some of Steve's notable DJing accomplishments include: Winning the Ericsson Muzik Award (best bedroom bedlam DJ 2000), starting his own successful club night in Birmingham called Subspace and headlining at some of the world's greatest clubs, including:Bedrock, Home (London), Nikita (San Francisco), Giant (LA), Spundae (WMC Miami) to name a few.
Steve's now also focusing on production. He and studio partner Russell Pearce have released tracks and remixes under the names Wrecked Angle (breaks) and Filta (progressive). With releases on Minimal, Intrinsic & Choo Choo's new breaks label, Akademia, plus remixes for the likes of Baroque, Navigation and Akademia. John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Steve Lawler, Hybrid, James Zabiela and Danny Howells have all been supporting their tracks already.
