From his start in the hardcore techno to the massive success he found with Miss Kittin, Michel Amato aka The Hacker is one of todays most talented and innovative French artists.

Michel starts doing music in 1989 at the age of 17 in Grenoble (France). Duran Duran was around but he discovers the dark sides of Electro with Cabaret Voltaire and D.A.F. In 93, he took the hardcore side and released a few 12”s with Benoit Bolloni (aka Money Peny Project) under the moniker XMF on the label of the same name.

In 95, he lowers the bpm but not the energy. Under the name The Hacker he makes his own music in a classic Detroit style with Jeff Mills in mind. Three years later he found his own label Goodlife Records. His first album, the 12”s Electronic Existentialist (Missile) and Cabaret Futura (Feis)) and the remix Greed (Laurent Garnier) made the statement that The Hacker was the new messenger of the French Electronic scene.

Despite this success it was another project that finally put The Hacker on the international stage... He creates some fun 80’s electro-pop with his friend Caroline Herve aka Miss Kittin. DJ Hell loves their first track “Gratin Dauphinois” on Technics and signs them on his new label Gigolo in 97. In Germany the success comes immediately with “Champagne” and “Intimités”. They are booked everywhere with Miss Kittin appearing as a dominant nurse and The Hacker cold as ice behind the machines and decks.

With the beginning of Electroclash in 2001 they are hyped all over the world, playing parties everywhere, talked about by Karl Lagerfeld and Elton John amongst others, The Hacker is one of the most sought-after producers remixing for Mark Almond, Fisherspooner, Air and Nizer Ebb.

In 2002 after their U.S. tour, Michel and Caroline decide to take a break from their project. The Hacker takes this opportunity to create new tracks to release on 12” such as The Beach on Mental Groove and Dance Industria on Tiga’s label Turbo. He collaborates with Kiko and Alexander Robotnik, Millimetric & David Caretta, toured all over the globe as deejay and starts working on his second album “Reves Mecaniques”.

Now in 2005 The Hacker comes to Sydney for a Live performance with Fellow Frenchman David Carretta...

Hailing from France, David Carretta is a true pioneer of the techno movement. From the release of his first EP on Harthouse Records in `93`, to his debut album Le Catalogue Electronique in `99` and onto worldwide tours and the launch of his own record label ,Space Factory in 2003. A busy life but David Carretta hasn’t changed too much over the years. The voices remain vicious and distanced, the bass sounds acid-like and the lyrics are French or English sung with a strong accent. It’s as if he has taken a wicked delight in preserving the special features and defect of his complex personality.

It was during a tour in 1995 that Carretta’s path in life took an unexpected turn: Helmut Geier, aka DJ Hell, noticed and signed him to his soon to be established label. Carretta’s track, 'Innerwood' essentially motivated Hell to launch `International Deejay Gigolos` and Carretta's title became the labels very first release – Gigolo 01! From then on Carretta has been unstoppable. His first 3 EP’s on the Gigolo label are still regularly listed by Groove Magazine in Germany, where his burgeoing profile in the early days was very quickly noticed overseas.

Despite all his success on the label, there is always life after Gigolo for David Carretta.

He’s collaborated with fellow-countrymen on Thrust Records pushing a pumping, dancefloor oriented style. `Machine is Breeding`, one of Thrust's 12-inches, actually pays tribute to the electro body music David used to listen to and heralded its return to the dancefloors. David’s career is of course, backed up with an overabundance of remixes scanning electronic music’s spectrum from the underground (Alessandro F, Steve Bug, Kiko, and Agoria) to the pop (Scratch Massive).

Steeped in a background of live performance, it wasn’t until 2001 that he introduced DJ’ing to his repertoire and with this new dimension his first mix cd, `Electro Dash` was launched. On it, the artist extracts the essential from his electro and techno influences, conveying to the general public the return of those sounds which have built his musical technique.

It is for a live performance though that he comes to Sydney and we’re definitely not complaining – he’s been known to blow the roof off the venues he plays and there is no doubt Sydney is in for a fantastic night!!
